Two firms take out top honours at the Surveying Consultancy Awards

The professionalism of Australia’s surveying industry was on full display at the National Surveying Consultancy Awards 2017, which took place on the evening of Friday 17 March. Held during the Surveying 2017 National congress, these inaugural awards were established to recognise the peak surveying consultancies across the nation.

To
acknowledge the efforts of consulting firms of all sizes, the awards were broken into two categories based on organizational size: Small Consultancies (15 employees or less) and Large Consultancies (greater than 15 employees).

Taking out the prize for the Large Consultancy category was Beveridge Williams. Established in Victoria and now with offices across Victoria and New South Wales, Beveridge Williams is a multi-disciplinary development consultancy. They provide a host of services including surveying, civil engineering, traffic and transport engineering, town planning, landscape architecture and urban design.

The judging panel for the awards were impressed by the way Beveridge Williams demonstrated an extremely high level of service delivery, evidenced through an independent highly-complimentary client satisfaction feedback rating. It was noted that this company had also demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the re-generation of the profession through a well-developed graduate training program, and possessed a vibrant company culture which supports career development and staff retention.

Gerry Shone, President of Consulting Surveyors National and part of the judging panel for the awards, commented that Beveridge Williams’s commitment to the surveying profession is outstanding and greatly needed, given the current and future shortage of surveyors across Australia.’

Receiving the award on behalf of Beveridge Williams was Managing Director, Grant Hailes. Thanking the numerous staff across their many offices, Mr Hailes said that we are expanding our business but the focus will always remain on the highest level of service delivery and staff development’.

Proud winner of the Small Consultancy Category was Tamworth based multi-disciplinary organisation, Mitchel Hanlon Consulting Pty Ltd. Established by Mitchel Hanlon in 2003, this company is committed to providing superior service to the Tamworth regional area, intrastate and across Australia..

Understanding the dedication and service provided by his team, Mitchel acknowledges that the team behind Mitchel Hanlon Consulting is our most valuable asset and we are committed to expanding the business to create more job opportunities for people in our regional cities’.   Mr Shone noted that The judging panel acknowledged the calibre of all entrants in this category but Mitchel Hanlon Consulting stood out as the clear winner’.   This consultancy demonstrated a sophisticated level of commitment to quality service delivery, professional and personal development of staff, health and safety, training and business planning.

The judging panel were impressed by the way in which Mitchel Hanlon, as the principal of the firm, demonstrated commitment to the profession through organisational involvement with industry and professional bodies. He is also committed to personal and company development through executive training, and implementation of a business management system that ensures quality outcomes for the client.   Impressed by the calibre of all entrants, the judging panel felt compelled to recognise not only the winner of the Larger Consultancy Category, but two other firms entering this category. Receiving finalist certificates were Reeds Consulting from Melbourne and SDG Land Development Solutions from Sydney; both deserving individual recognition for their outstanding commitment to professionalism.
