ACS NSW serves its members in many ways

ACS NSW was established in 1969 and is comprised of members from private sector firms within NSW engaged in the business of surveying or a related discipline. These firms are small, medium and large organisations located throughout the state of NSW.

The Association has a number of roles:

The Association acts as a voice for its members.  With its ongoing working relationships with industry, key government departments (Such as Land and Property Information) and infrastructure bodies dealing with the provision of land services, it is well positioned to drive change and push for improvements within the profession.

At the forefront of the industry, it provides its members with up-to-date information on industry trends and changes. The Association provides a range of services to members to assist in the establishment, running and promotion of their business.

In cooperation with the Institution of Surveyors NSW, ACS NSW takes the lead by running the largest industry awards night, which acknowledges the achievements of individuals and firms within the industry. The NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information (EISSI) Awards are run each year in September and further information on this event can be found here.

ACS NSW believes that the key to understanding the challenges faced by the surveying profession is through accurate and detailed research.  Only when quality research is undertaken can a plan be put into place to adequately overcome any current and future challenges.

That's why ACS NSW, in co-operation with Consulting Surveyors National commissioned BIS Shrapnel to analyse the future demands for Surveyors in Australia, allowing the profession to understand future issues and hence put plans in place to overcome these. A copy of this study can be found here.

The Association also undertakes research to assist with the day-to-day running of a surveying firm. Member research is conducted to obtain information on salaries paid within the industry and hourly rates charged by surveying organisations throughout the state.  This information is of great benefit to members, as it helps surveying organisations assess where their business stands in relation to salaries paid and hourly rates charged.

Key to the development of the surveying profession is ongoing education and training.  A core responsibility of the Association is the provision of high quality training programs and seminar events – all aimed at providing the necessary education for Surveyors to maintain their required level of professional points.

The Association provides a range of resources to assist in the establishment, running and promotion of their business. Training and advice provided is relevant to all SME’s involved in the industry. ACS NSW through its office and executive committee sees its role to advise member firms to develop, maintain and provide an efficient service for the benefit of the community.

One main and vital role of the association is advocacy.  Becoming a strong voice for the profession is vital to maintaining industry integrity and standards, and to ensure that the profession is protected and preserved. It is important to voice the needs of the profession when state and national legislation changes are proposed which could potentially impact the profession.

The Association's Constitution

Every incorporated association must have a constitution, which is a contract between the association and its members, who both agree to adhere to the provisions outlined in the constitution. A copy of the Association's constitution can be found here.
